Why Regular Dentist Visits Are Important?

April 24, 2021

Your oral health is as important as your overall health. Just like you visit your doctor to get your health checked regularly, you should also visit your dentist twice a year to ensure your oral health. Brushing and flossing daily might not always be able to help you get rid of various oral problems. Going to the dentist regularly would help detect oral problems at an early stage, which would make the treatment easier and less complex. In this article, we will discuss why it is essential to visit your Finchley dentist regularly.

  1. When you go for a regular dental checkup, your dentist will thoroughly check your gums and teeth. In case of disease, decay, or plaque on teeth, they will suggest different in-office treatments that would make your oral conditions healthy.

  2. Gum diseases are crucial, and they can even damage your jawbones. The initial signs of gum problems are not always evident, but you might need to undergo a complex treatment as they become severe. Visiting your dentist regularly, they would check your mouth for gum diseases, and in case they find gum pockets, they would clean the same and seal it back to your teeth roots. If periodontal diseases are not treated on time, they can cause jawbone erosion, and you might end up losing your teeth.

  3. Oral cancers have become quite common around the world. Wrong lifestyle choices like tobacco consumption, drinking or genes are some of the reasons behind this deadly disease. When you go to your dentist for a dental checkup, they would also check your mouth and throat for oral cancer. In case they see any red patch or lump, they might ask you to get a biopsy done. Detecting oral cancer at an early stage would help in the complete eradication of the disease.

  4. Sometimes, oral problems are intense and regular checkups cannot detect them. Your dentist might ask you to get an oral x-ray done so that they can detect the underlying problems behind your oral issues. These x-rays are safe and are performed by experts.

  5. Plaque and tartar are common dental issues that mainly occur due to poor oral hygiene. If left untreated, they can cause tooth decay. While plaque is a thin film that forms over your teeth and can be removed by routine brushing, tartar is a hard substance and can only be removed by in-office teeth cleaning sessions. The procedure will clean the surface of your teeth and your gum line to ensure that there are no chances for decay.

So, even if you have no problems with your teeth or oral health, you should visit your dentist at least twice a year. Getting your oral conditions checked would ensure good health in the long run.
